CRC @CRC1029fm Rich in Experience – is that enough? March 9th 2015

Career Corner with Liam Horan

Topics today:

Q: I have loads of experience in my area (business management with a speciality in Financial Management) but I don’t have a scrap of paper to prove my worth. I went into a company at 18 years of age and progressed up through the ranks. Now, as the job market shrinks, I notice all these advertisements where they are asking for people with third level degrees. This has really put me off applying for jobs, even though I know I can do some of the roles I have seen. What should I do? (MM, email)

Q: I’m looking for a job for the first time in 15 years, and, to be perfectly honest, I am finding it intimidating. Where do I start? Last time I was looking for a job, it was just a matter of keeping an eye on the papers. Nowadays there are so many different ways. Can you give me some pointers? (AT, email.)

Liam Horan, Managing Director, Sli Nua Careers Ltd, talks to Aidan Crowley of Community Radio Castlebar, in Career Corner –  a series of career tips interviews that will be broadcast each Monday on CRC-fm at 5.30pm GMT.
