Colm Flynn – Guidance Counsellor
Colm is a member of the Guidance Department in Coláiste Bhaile Chláir, Claregalway, Co. Galway.
He achieved first class honours when completing his MA in Guidance Counselling and Lifespan Development at the University of Limerick.
He has experience of providing careers and educational guidance related services in his school, including topics relating to student self-awareness, career research, career decision-making capabilities, and future career skills and competencies.
Leaving Certs / senior cycle students: He meets students on a one-to-one basis when assisting them with CAO options, career planning, and subject choice. This role ensures that he has worked with students and parents with applications for CAO, DARE, HEAR, UCAS, and scholarships.
Adults: Colm guides adults keen to make a career change or to find their exact niche within their own. Drawing on his vast knowledge of the education system, he brings his coaching expertise to bear to achieve outstanding results for his clients.
His literary work includes his MA dissertation which looks at the role of the guidance counsellor in supporting dual career student-athletes. He has also contributed a chapter entitled The Student Athlete to Paul Kilgannon’s book Be The Best You Can Be In Sport – A Book for Irish Youth.
Colm also holds a QQI Level 6 Diploma in Professional Coaching Practice and Ethics and has a keen interest in creating a blend between a person’s education and the other important elements of their development as a person.
