Note-taker doth protest too much

Q: I’d like to take some notes during the interview – just to be sure I get a fair crack of the whip. Some dodgy appointments have been made in our place before and I need to be on my guard. If anything goes wrong, I’ll be able to pull them up on it. Would this be a good idea to keep them honest? (RF, email).

A: You might ensure a fair crack of the whip – but you’ll almost certainly ensure you won’t get the position either, writes Arthur Geraghty, Career Coach, Sli Nua Careers.  It’s a job interview, not a delegation from union to management.

Go in and show them what you can do in the role. Nothing more, nothing less.
